FRIENDS CONFERENCE ON RELIGION AND PSYCHOLOGY

History and Archives

Since 1938, some six years before the Friends Conference on Religion and Psychology (FCRP) was officially founded in 1943, its members began to amass a rich assortment of archival materials.  The records of FCRP are on this website, or on the FCRP Archives website and in the collections of the Friends Historical Library (FHL) at Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

In 2025, the FCRP Collaborative began assembling on this website the FCRP Conference Archives, including an Index of Plenary Speakers only, audio recordings of some of the speakers., and an Index of complete Conference Programs from 1943 to 1989.  Efforts are underway to complete the full historical index in readable format.

Efforts are also underway to add a full run of back issues of the official FCRP journal, Inward Light, initially published from 1937 to 1989, and relaunched in 2024.  Currently, recordings of some of the Plenary Speakers and some issues of Inward Light are available on the FCRP Archives site mentioned in the first paragraph of this page and a few have been moved to this website. FCRP began recording Conferences as soon as that technology became readily available and the Planning Committee contained the technical knowledge to make recordings.

Additionally, the Friends Historical Library (FHL) at Swarthmore College is the official repository of FCRP records as part of our Quaker heritage.  From 1938, and primarily from 1943 to 1997, FCRP members have donated meeting minutes, conference handouts and evaluations, speaker topics, correspondence, photographs, audio recordings of plenary speakers, and website content.  Among the digital files are also some records for the Washington Friends Conference on Religion and Psychology (WFCRP). Recordings of WFCRP Conferences will also be made available on the WFCRP website.
